Welcome to Backporchchatter.com!

Who we are
- We want to discuss and debate potentially controversial topics that affect our lives and our world with people who more directly share the small part of the world we occupy, so we can get to know our neighbors on a deeper level.

- We are a forum of moms because we feel that mothers have a unique point of view and set of concerns that other audiences may or may not share.

-We have a tendency to look at these topics with an eye toward how they will affect our children, as well as ourselves, and in some cases that means the need to talk about these issues is more pressing, more personal, and less of a *sport.*

- We are "local" moms who live, work and raise their kids within driving distance from each other.

- We want to improve the level of discourse in this country in our own small way and believe if there is a chance that we might actually cross paths in person, if we might just see each other at the mall tomorrow, we'll be less likely to stoop to personal attacks when we disagree online.

Why we're here
- We realize there are some topics moms aren't likely to discuss openly with other moms at playgroup or in a support forum, but we want and need to talk about these things from time to time, even with people we don't know very well.

- We want to find like-minded new friends, we want to learn more about issues we care about or that intrigue us, and sometimes we just want to better understand how and why others disagree with us.

- Sometimes we're pretty sure where we stand, but we want to test our reasoning or resolve by opening ourselves up to challenge and debate.
We want and *need* a place to do all these things where everyone who enters knows what they're getting into in advance.

Bottom line?
Debate is not a dirty word as long as your goal is to "win" a better understanding of yourself and others, even those who disagree with you completely! So if we sound like a group you want to meet, put on your big girl panties, grab a cold beverage and c'mon in! We're glad to know you!
